Project Management Experience

Battery Materials Projects

Precursor Pilot Plant Design & BuildOngoing, France

Project management of the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of a new NCM precursor pilot plant.

The project includes specifying, identifying and securing a suitable host site for the process equipment and working closely with the equipment supplier to minimise costs and lead times.

CAM Pilot Plant Expansion & Upgrade2020-21, UK

Project management of the expansion of an NCM precursor and CAM pilot plant to increase capacity and incorporate new technologies.

The project involved engaging with specialist technology vendors to secure key information which drove the overall process design and fed into the design of the new process building. Major challenges were the lead times of the equipment and managing both an engineering contractor and client-side management team that were unfamiliar with the battery materials industry and pilot plants.

Metals Dissolving Plant2019-20, UK

Project management of a pre-FEED study for a metal dissolving plant making nickel and cobalt sulphate solutions for NCM CAM precursor feedstock.

Batch and continuous laboratory tests were carried out with the results used to develop design concepts to be taken through to engineering. PFDs, layouts, and cost estimates were generated, serving as a basis for the investment decisions for the next project phase.

New Laboratory Installation2020-21, UK

Project management of the design and installation of a new battery materials product development laboratory.

A specialist consultant was engaged to prepare a RIBA Stage 3 design for the installation of the new laboratory on a floor of an existing building originally meant for offices. A major challenge was the containment of toxic powders using downflow dust-booths and the requirement to have several full-height fume cupboards, which increased the size of the air handling units beyond the capacity of the existing plant room.

Oil & Gas Projects

Oilfield Development Projects2014-18, France

Project lead for numerous concept and feasibility studies for new oilfield developments, upgrades, and tie-backs.

The role involved preparing preliminary production facility designs and cost estimates for input into the business case. Projects were located in Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Gabon, Congo, Bolivia, Kurdistan (Iraq), Nigeria, Russia, and Azerbaijan and involved working with local affiliates and petroleum architects.

Egina FPSO2013-14, Australia

Company representative for an oil and gas major assigned to the engineering office of an EPC contractor carrying out the detailed design of an FPSO.

Despite a tight schedule and a complex contractual delivery structure, the FPSO was delivered in time to meet the first oil date.

Akpo FPSO2010-2013, Nigeria

Engineering and project management of multiple brownfield modifications in support of production operations on an FPSO offshore Nigeria over a three year period on behalf of an oil and gas major.

More than twenty modification projects were successfully carried out while overcoming restricted space on a heavily congested topside, short windows for installation works, and a lack of offshore bedspace.

Flare Tip Replacement Crane2012, Nigeria

Project management of the design, fabrication, and load testing of a bespoke crane for the replacement of FPSO flare tips on behalf of an oil and gas major.

The works included construction of a replica flare platform and a functional test of the entire crane and rigging system using a mock flare tip. The crane and its associated rigging components were delivered along with certification to the field ready for the next shutdown.

Chayvo Heliport2009-10, Russia

Project management of a FEED study for a new heliport at an oil processing facility in eastern Russia on behalf of an oil and gas major.

The heliport comprised a rejected takeoff/landing area flyway and taxiways, a hangar, and a passenger/administration building with the engineering and design carried out by an approved Russian design institute as per national regulations.
