Battery Project Experience

Design, Installation & Operation of a pCAM Development Laboratory2022-23, USA

Project manager for the design, installation, and operation of an NCM pCAM product development laboratory in the USA.

Role includes equipment selection, vendor engagement, and developing an automated chemical dosing system as well as preparing a comprehensive reaction programme.

pCAM Pilot Plant Engineering and Construction2022, USA

Project manager and process lead for the engineering and construction of an NCM pCAM pilot plant in the USA.

Role includes calculating flow rates, vessel sizes, chemical consumption, waste streams, and utilities as well as equipment selection, vendor engagement, and management of the general engineering and construction contractor.

pCAM Pilot Plant Detailed Process Design2022, France & Turkey

Project manager and process lead on behalf of a French engineering firm for an NCM CAM pilot plant being built in Turkey.

Role includes calculating flow rates, vessel sizes, chemical consumption, waste streams, and utilities as well as equipment selection and vendor engagement.

CAM Pilot Plant Expansion & Upgrade2020-21, UK

Project management of the expansion of an NCM pCAM and CAM pilot plant to increase capacity and incorporate new technologies.

The project involved engaging with specialist technology vendors to secure key information which drove the overall process design and fed into the design of the new process building. Major challenges were the lead times of the equipment and managing both an engineering contractor and client-side management team that were unfamiliar with the battery materials industry and pilot plants.

Metals Dissolving Plant2019-20, UK

Project management of a pre-FEED study for a metal dissolving plant making nickel and cobalt sulphate solutions for NCM CAM precursor feedstock.

Batch and continuous laboratory tests were carried out with the results used to develop design concepts to be taken through to engineering. PFDs, layouts, and cost estimates were generated, serving as a basis for the investment decisions for the next project phase.

New Laboratory Installation2020-21, UK

Project management of the design and installation of a new NCM CAM product development laboratory.

A specialist consultant was engaged to prepare a RIBA Stage 3 design for the installation of the new laboratory on a floor of an existing building originally meant for offices. A major challenge was the containment of toxic powders using downflow dust-booths and the requirement to have several full-height fume cupboards, which increased the size of the air handling units beyond the capacity of the existing plant room.
